9 Months

Luke turned 9 months about a week ago!  He's doing all the things a 9 month old baby should be: crawling, pulling up, making ga,ba,na,ma sounds.  Everything on course, except the sippy cup!!!  Not sure why, but my son HATES it.  He closes his eyes and shakes his head back and forth so fast I think he gets dizzy.  He's not that great at solids either.  The other day, he refused to swallow a carrot for his Mimi.  He held it in his closed mouth literally 30 minutes before Mimi wrestled it out of his mouth.  He held a piece of egg in there for a really long time the other day for me.  At times, I get stressed but then realize that my kid will not go to college not eating solid foods.

Luke is a typical boy.  He's into everything, climbing on or in everything, likes to throw things, drop things, and all the other fun things that rambunctious boys do.  He pulls up on everything he can get his hands on.  He forgets he can't stand on his own and lets go of whatever he's using for balance.  It won't be long and I'll have a running toddler but until then I'm going to enjoy my baby for another 3 months and cherish every minute.

We have one small issue with Luke's health, and that is an obstruction of his tear ducts.  They are basically clogged and will not drain his tears properly.  The tears he has naturally during the day, not the excess ones from crying, don't drain down into his nose and turn into boogies like they are supposed to.  They get clogged and that causes the tears to sit on his bottom lid or turn to goop in the corner of his eye.  He will undergo a surgery on the 23rd of this month to correct it.  The pediatric optomologist will put him to sleep for a few minutes and stick a tiny probe down the duct to clear the obstruction.  It's not a huge, scary deal but anytime a baby is put to sleep it seems horrible.  We know he'll do fine and be home and back to normal very soon after the procedure.  He will be home that same day.

On a happier note, Luke still loves Elmo.  He is a Mommy's boy these days, especially when he's sick or sleepy.  He is energetic, outgoing, calm, happy, and so very sweet.  He loves the two toy cars he got for Christmas.  The one he gets pushed around in and the one that just sits for him to push buttons in.  Over Christmas, Luke watched this Elmo Happy Holidays DVD over and over and over.  I was amazed at how enthralled he was with it.  He is absolutely "in love" with Prairie Dawn.  Here are two videos of him watching her. Be sure to turn up the sound so that you may experience the voice of Prairie Dawn. It's crazy…
