Kitchen DIY Project

Chris got this wonderful idea to put a back splash in our kitchen.  I loved the idea until he pushed for us to do it ourselves.  We sent Luke to his Grammy's house for the weekend, which was so hard even though I knew he was in loving and capable hands.  I smelled his jammies that were in the laundry at night, which, i know, makes me CRAZY!  I could literally feel tugging on my heart.  It's the craziest feeling.  Anyway, back to the back splash.  We took at short tiling class at The Tile Shop. To those who are thinking of any DIY projects that include tiling of any sort, I would recommend them.  The guy who taught our class took specific questions about our project and gave us hands on instructions.  We even got his cell phone number for questions once we were home and working.  I was worried in the beginning that we were going to get half way through and give up, or kill one another, or it was going to look awful b/c we hadn't thought it out enough.  After 3 nights, 6 trips to Lowes, 3 trips to The Tile Shop, 4 fast food meals, 1 small screaming fit on my part, and lots of laughs, we were done. It took a long time and there was a mess in our kitchen for 3 straight days that made my anxiety level skyrocket, but we had a lot of fun.  We are very proud of ourselves.  Would we ever tile again on our own?  Probably not :)  We really enjoy daydreaming of all the updates and project we want to do in our house. It's one of our favorite things to do these days.  Next: Decorative wall paneling and possibly an inside/outside fireplace!

Here are a few before and after pics!

  1. This looks great! We would tear our house down if we tried to do something like that!
